Based on the assessment of the case study, Jarrad at only one year is not able to utter the necessary words like mama or papa; thus, he might miss out on the cognitive development stage (Beckett & Tylor, 2010). Also, the health visitor says that he has been behind with his inoculations and is unable to comment on him as he has not been brought to any of her clinics. According to this statement, it is evident that Jarrad’s immune system is at risk, and his health is not being monitored correctly. He expresses suspicion and mistrust of his immediate environment when put on the floor, but does not move; his ability to explore and find new things is thus limited due to being tied to the car chair. This sensory motor stage is very important as it develops goal-directed habits and movements (Berk, 2003).
The situation at his home has affected his vocalization and movement stages of development. These may lead to poor language development and delayed motor skills. Also, being limited to a certain position may negatively affect his ability to explore and control anger (Berk, 2003). His social life may also be adversely affected due to the continuous heated row between Tina and her husband. Darren’s use of inappropriate language and disrespect to everyone he speaks to may negatively impact Jarrad’s personal character development, and he may develop doubt about his own capacity for self-control. Thus, he may grow to be aggressive and angry at all times. The living conditions at home, including a strong smell of animal droppings throughout the floor, stains all over the walls, and a clatter of dirty linen and rubbish in the living room, may affect him negatively and thubecomeng an unhygienic person with poor toileting behavior (Beckett & Tylor, 2010).
As the mother only seems to feed and wash Jarrad, the child may lack in social skills, such as magical thinking and a lack of conservation throughout his life (Britton et al., 2007). While Tina is supposed to have a constant conversation with her child in a bid to build his esteem and teach him a few words, she only does the two basic things (feeding and watering) and leaves the child strapped to a car seat. Thus, Jarrad may miss out on the chance to develop his cognitive development in developing object permanence and imaginative play, a nd also miss out on his anal stage of development.
