IMPROVING HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Introduction

Health promotion includes the things that can support preventing diseases and support in enhancing the communities and individual health. Health promotion even provides solutions to many people, who are facing health issues like lack of exercise, obesity, and stress by developing knowledge and skills, a supportive environment, the action of the community, health services, and health public policy (Hanlon 2012). Health promotion even supports communities or individuals to enhance control over and improve well-being and health. This paper will explore the fundamental problem of stress faced by people in Scotland, and discuss; it is important to understand about mental health promotion. Mental health promotion still stays as a highly underdeveloped health promotional area, even though, various recognitions mention, that “There exists no health without any mental health (Hanlon 2012).”

Right mental health includes self-esteem, which can support solving issues and hold an ability to adapt to stress issues. The requirement for having positive mental health promotion is advantageous and appropriate for everyone (Hanlon 2012). It is crucial to emphasize over professionals and policymakers analyse that mental well-being and mental health are problems of each day. Therefore, right mental health demands to have coordinated action by the concern of government, media, industry, local authorities, voluntaries, and the help of social, health as well as economic sectors (Hanlon 2012).

Mental health promotion is significant as it highly contributes to every aspect related to human life, such as important values for society, individuals, and culture. Mental health includes the relationship with the productivity and well-being of society and with all its members (Allgower, Wardle and Steptoe 2001). Mental health is essential for the functioning and well-being of every individual. Stress is the most discussed issue in the present time, but it implies different to every person. What might stress look like to one, might go differently to others, like a challenge or exciting? The question that stress impacts are very variable; few of its sensations are the same as anxiety but are usually quite insidious and obvious. Stress often builds up slowly, instead of happening overnight. Unless the stress is tackled, it might lead to mental and physical issues (Allgower, Wardle and Steptoe 2001). All these issues might impact individuals in both the short and long term; therefore, it’s important for people to understand how to identify, when they are facing stress issues, and then learn how to cope with it in a healthy manner. For instance, the stress in the long term is known as depression.

Discussion

Rational of the model of health promotion used in the health promotion project

Mental health is essential for the functioning and well-being of individuals. Positive mental health is a significant resource for families, individuals, nations, and communities. Being included within general health, mental health highly contributes to society and even impacts overall productivity (Allgower, Wardle and Steptoe 2001). Mental health is also a concern for everyone because it is generated in day-to-day life at schools, homes, leisure activities, and workplaces. Right mental health always contributes to the human, social, as well as economic capital of society. In the context of spirituality, it can create a significant contribution towards health promotion, and it is true that mental health usually gets influence towards spiritual life. The concept of mental health can be considered as the most recognized particular resource that contributes towards an individual’s quality of life, and as an aspect of positive mental health (Allgower, Wardle, and Steptoe 2001). It also holds a capacity for imparting mutual satisfaction and even ensuring better relations.

Health promotion employees work at different levels, like working within groups as well as communities, direct contact with individuals, and focusing on more strategic work like the development of policy. Working like a health promotion specialist is more compared to persuading and advising people to bring change in their lifestyle (Bagwell and Bush 1999). This model is important in different aspects:

Project management- it includes management of health promotion projects, to ensure that they deliver high standards, effectiveness, and everything in an ethical manner.

Community development- it encourages and develops communities to get healthier, such as cultural communities, neighbourhood, and communities of high interest.

Personal development- it includes emotional, and personal growth along with the development of everyone's ability and social skills, imparting them with an opportunity to increase their health and to build an attitude towards health promotion (Bagwell and Bush 1999).

Partnership development- it includes developing partnerships with communities, organizations, and people that create influence on health promotional activities and even support in partnership for having better education for health promotion.

Organizational development- it includes encouraging companies to emphasize health promotion like building hospitals, schools, and workplaces (Bagwell and Bush 1999).

Health information- it involves the development of offering the right information about the health of people, behavioural and social factors that might impact the health, and what all steps can be taken to improve it.

Strategy development- it includes the development of a planned approach for enhancing health and to ensure about regional, local as well as national policies that might impact the health of the public with the help of health promotion (Bezeau and Graves 2001).

The specialist in health promotion tries to work in different locations and settings like fitness and sports centers, health centers, communities, buildings of the local authority, offices, schools, and hospitals (Bezeau and Graves 2001).

Explain and evidence the role of the nurse in health promotion.

The world health organization (WHO) defines health promotion as the process that enables people to enhance control over and even improve their health. In order to facilitate this process, it is important to offer individuals relevant information (Ryan 2013). In the health promotion program, nurses play a significant role in providing that information in the format of health teaching. Nurses are educated, and even experienced health professionals, which can be readily available in various settings (Ryan 2013). Scotland is a good example of how quickly can anyone access nurse experience. Anyone can make a call with their concern, question, and health problems and can easily take information while taking advice about the plan of action on the phone or personally (Ryan 2013).

Mental health nursing is considered a specialized nursing branch that emphasizes giving care to people having mental health issues (Ryan 2013). Mental health nurses often work with patients for the purpose of promoting psychological wellbeing as well as physical and emotional well-being. It can easily work with customers for analysing the condition of mental health; learn about managing symptoms, and become aware of what can exacerbate the status of mental health (Ryan 2013). Mental health nurses work with patients that suffer from different problems like bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety.

Mental health nurses often collaborate with the specialist settings of mental nurse along with generalist settings among illness and age spectrum, such as from infant mental health to perinatal mental health, adolescent to child mental health, as well as adult mental health, along with all across the health promotion, starting intervention and primary practice (Ryan 2013). It also includes community-based practices such as long, medium, and acute; generalist inpatients such as emergency department, subacute as well as settings of forensic inpatients (Ryan 2013). Specialized programs might emphasize people who hold an experience, mainly in the mental health condition. They also work in different clinical roles like mental health communities, private practice, consultation-liaison, and necessary acre such as forensic services (Ryan 2013). They even collaborate with various tasks like policy positions, nursing organization, universities, and positions of government advisory.

Conclusion

Health promotion is mainly prevention. It’s considered a practice for preventing disease and for promoting positive health among people, and communities of the whole country. It is true that health promotion is the right thing, as it helps in saving money and enhances the quality of life. If the entire community stays healthy, then less money will be spent on healthcare, which implies economic productivity as well as improves the quality of life of every person. Health promotion not only supports adults but at the same time, it also helps children. Health promotional programs also assist in making individuals and communities understand the demands one faces and how one can cope with the issues in a better way for handling stress. It is crucial to support the close-up and help them when they are in a problem.
