The Tragedy of Cora Roberts
While foster care, social service and the present system have all been questioned in the aftermath of the tragedy that befell Cora Roberts; there has been much speculation on what might have caused the fire that claimed many innocent lives and destroyed a family home not so long ago. Cora Roberts -an exceptional woman who change many lives during her lifetime- will always be remembered with love and fondness. This makes the tragedy that befell her and many members of her extended family including her son and grandson, all the more painful. She was a good mother, as can be testified by the many children to whom she was a foster mother. Many owe their success to her kindness and thoughtful ways.

The foster care system is designed to keep tabs on the children and foster parents who are part of it. While a complete investigation is under progress, we believe this tragedy could have been averted and a good life saved. Both the foster children who died along with Cora, have a known history of starting fires are were under counseling for the same, although it is still uncertain if Cora was informed of this fact during the placement meeting. While a highly experienced foster parent would not overlook the important piece of information, we must also consider Cora’s record with many ‘problem’ children who have blossomed under her able care. It is possible that she took them in, in the hope of helping them as is evidenced by her attending training for “foster parents with fire behavior in their home” recently. We will continue to update you on the progress of the investigation.
